And I'm so excited!  I'm so pleased to see that all this hard work is paying off for my family.  Who would have known when I began publishing processes last spring that The Governess would be so successful?  I sure didn't.  But it's been a huge blessing in my family's lives.

I'm so grateful to all of my readers out there for the amazing support you've given me in this exciting new phase of my life.  I'm not one who knew, just knew, that I'd grow up to be an author.  I never really gave it much thought.  It's amazing how life grows us and molds us into better people...at least I hope that's what's happening here.  :)  It's sure been a ride.  And I'm really enjoying the great parts, like this.  Thanks everyone!

Hugs,
Ellise

Date Night!...

...has long been Pizza & a Movie Night around here...

Picture
And we thoroughly enjoy it!  We discovered long ago that raising children didn't necessarily allow for date nights, so we brought the date night home for everyone.  Tonight, we watched 'The Croods', ate thin crust pizza with half pepperoni, half Canadian bacon with olives, mushrooms, green peppers, and spinach, salad on the side, and popcorn via our local video store--Walkers.  It was all very delicious and the movie was cute.  I love spending time with my family, even though we missed our oldest who worked tonight.  I remember those days...a drag to miss out when everyone is having fun, but we think of her while saving her slices.

Here's to family nights!! :)

Writer's Retreat was a blast!

11/11/2013

PictureMealtime was talking time!
Well, I definitely accomplished some writing this weekend.  By the time the weekend was over, I was just about at 20k words.  What great fun to participate in timed writing 'sprints' (which I am now going to apply to my writing time at home).  Everyone would win prizes, not only for winning contests, such as the sprints, but for setting writing goals and completing them.  And let me tell you, folks, there were authors at this retreat who blew me away.  We're talking 45k words and more over one weekend.  What an example to me in setting new writing goals!  Since this was my first time, I think I'm going to pat myself on the back anyway, if you don't mind.  :)  It was WAY fun!

Thank you, again, Wendy Swore, for inviting me to such an awesome writer's retreat!  Wendy made this retreat so fun and exciting for everyone by: holding tons of contests to get the most writing out of us as possible while earning some great prizes; challenging us with sprint-timed writing which is exhausting yet an amazing way to write; having a great planned time so that everyone could learn, learn, learn; plus concentrate on writing, writing, writing for a weekend of fun. Not only that, but we ate amazing meals.  It was fun to win prizes, such as these hats that, from now on, I'm to wear when I am not supposed to be disturbed and when I'm at work at my computer   :)  Great fun!

Two of my prizes: One for winning a sprint at 1,995 words; and one for the most writing overall on Saturday! (Shhh...I think they were just giving me a chance...)

...and being silly.
And, thank you, to you amazing authors for welcoming me and making me  feel comfortable at my first retreat! It was great to mix and mingle with you and hear your stories and inspiration.  I learned so much from all of you as you shared technique, talent, and how-to's for future application.  Thank you so much!! :)  I also loved the classes on book covers and also on creating interesting characters.  I wish I had been able to attend the one on query letters, but, alas, I couldn't be in two places at once...(I think it's because I don't write fantasy...).
Setting goals is so important when writing, as with anything else in life.  It helps you to actually strive for the goal and accomplish your overall dream.  I was able to complete The Governess trilogy and almost finish Pirate Bride in its first draft.  What's next, you ask?  Well, how about the fun part...the fleshing out process that makes the story an exciting adventure.
It was cool to meet and talk to a graphics artist who was willing to answer some of my questions as well as many other authors while there.  I'm afraid we kept him from his own writing.  So sorry, Devon!  But he was very kind and generous in helping us all with our many questions. In fact, in looking at my cover, we decided to experiment while we talked about it.  So we pulled up a copy of my book cover photograph.
He made it fascinating to watch the process that it takes to make a picture into a cover.  He got right into it and ended up creating my newest cover for the new governess trilogy.  Click here for a peek!  Now, with one of the certificates I won as a prize, I hope to ask him to do my cover for Pirate Bride.  Anyone needing to have cover work done, he's very gifted and works very hard at his craft.

The cabin we stayed in was more like a lodge.  It was gorgeous and had plenty of room for all of us to spread out and find a comfortable spot to write.  There was great teamwork  with people discussing topics they needed help with as well as quiet time to work in silence.  It was an amazing experience. I hope to be able to show more pictures later (they are now below) of the deer the other writers took pictures of... no bears, thank goodness... although we were told there were some bear sightings.  We were careful when out on the deck or walking outside the cabin.

So thanks for the great times, writers, and for helping me to accomplish my goals so that my readers can have the next book in The Huntington Saga Series Novels by the release date next spring!

Hugs,
Ellise

And now I'm happy to be home with my little family.  I missed them, and they are the whole reason why I write.  They are the reason why I do anything.  Because of them, I strive each day to heal so that I can raise them and teach them and love them.  They are the reasons I'm still alive today.

I love you!
Ellise & Mom

Writer's Retreat!

So...here I am at my writer's retreat, actually connected to the internet for however many minutes it will decide to be connected.  But honestly, the only reason I've needed internet is to stay in touch with my family, because there is no phone service here.  Anyhoo...it's been actually kind of cool to be restricted from the outside world up here in the mountains of Heber City, Utah, writing to my heart's content with 20ish other writers.  It's been awesome!!  We write and write and write.  So far, I've written 7,386 words that I've actually remembered to count.  We have contests, sprints, prizes, and yummy food.

It's been so amazing to be so focused.  I've been able to finish all the new chapters for The Governess that I'm hoping to release this month, November 2013.  I can't do the fancy stuff on this computer since it's different than mine, but I'll do that at home when I have a chance.  I'll be working on a new cover as well, but most likely reuse one of them, but just add some stuff.  Not really sure yet, since I'm still learning to do that myself.  I hate bothering people.  I learned some stuff about creating covers but it all still leads mainly to paying for someone to do it for you.  I'm still poor enough that I'll keep it close to home. *sigh*  But...someday... :)

I'm now working diligently on Pirate Bride.  Guess what!!  It's so fun!!!  I love writing when I get to do it like this!!  I love creating stories and characters and adventures.  I'm also thrilled to compare my skills and writing and sales with other authors.  Its been a real treat to see how well I actually am doing.  It's been great incentive to keep doing what I love.  Writing!  So hang on to your britches, the stories are coming.  I'm hoping that I'll have more time again once I get home.  I'll just have to be creative and schedule time wisely. (And probably significantly shorten the length of them.)

Here's to more dreams, folks!  So dream on.

Hugs,
Ellise

P.S.  I sure miss my family though!  Love you!

So excited!!!  Thank you, Wendy S., for the kind invitation!

I can't believe it!  A whole weekend of nothing but writing!  Woohoo!  Yes!

My goals are:  To finish all the new chapters for The Governess:  Book One--Volumes 1-3 combined; and then to fully exhaust myself with Pirate Bride.  Awesomeness!

I have really enjoyed getting back into Carly and Creighton's story and adding the new chapters about their wedding.  It's been great fun!  Many of you wanted that more in depth ending, so I hope you are happy  with what I am coming up with.  :)  I look forward to hearing from you about what you think, too.

I LOVE being creative!

Hugs everyone,

Our New Car!

11/1/2013

Picture
Wow!!  Where do I begin?

In all our 21 years of marriage, we have never had a new car.  We have always been so blessed to receive a car from someone in the family willing to sell to us for a good price we could afford. :)  We've been so grateful over the years.  But...

When our 91 Ford Explorer (which is the newest car we've ever had) died this last month, we decided that replacing the transmission for the fourth time (yes, you heard me correctly) was not an option.  We're cheap simply because life has forced us to be.  It's one of the things you learn very quickly when not able to work and contribute and because we have major medical bills by the dozens oozing out of envelopes at us, even in our nightly dreams.  Uggh!

So, imagine the difficulty in making a decision to buy a new car (well, new to us, anyway...) and commit to making a monthly payment when it's your guess as good as ours whether we'll have the money for the payment.

Since my books have been selling consistently enough to pay a car payment (which wasn't in the original plan of why I was writing in the first place--more like paying off all the tardy medical bills!!), we decided to be risk takers and rely on the good graces of God and invest in a new car with the goal that the books would pay the car payment.  This brings me to the 'Wow!'

Wow!!!!  Not even in my wildest dreams did I think this would be possible right now...but we're doing it!  Thank you, Father in Heaven!!!!!!!  Thank you for such wonderful blessings in our life!  Dreams really do come true, people!  Keep dreaming out there and accomplishing your goals!

Hugs,
Ellise
